NewsCourtney Love plays surprise birthday showCourtney Love shared her birthday tonight (July 9) with an intimate London show. The rock Queen road-tested her new material at the Bush Hall in west London for an audience of competition winners and close friends. Love played eleven brand new songs, all slated to appear on forthcoming album 'Nobody's Daughter', alongside a slew of Hole classics. This week's low-key tour - which also takes in Paris, New York and Los Angeles - is a chance to break in hew band, which features former Larrikin Love guitarist Micko Larkin. But new songs were the show's main event, with the vast majority of the Linda Perry-produced album getting an airing. Before power-balled 'Letter To God', Love declared: "this was written by me and the genius Linda Perry. She's done a lot of pop, but she's doing a lot of rock right now!" Yet Love was defiant about the lo-fi nature of the show, saying. "I guess I wanted chandeliers and shit sound. And what I got was chandeliers and shit sound!" And the confirmed smoker was quick to complain about the UK's recently-enforced smoking ban, complaining from the stage: "the only place I can smoke in England is the Houses Of Parliament! That's so retarded!" Black Lips unveil new album, tour details The Black Lips have revealed details of their second album entitled 'Good Bad Not Evil', scheduled for release in September. The Atlanta quartet recorded the album in their home city in Georgia, and features the tracks 'Katrina', 'Lean' and 'Bad Kids'. As previously reported, the band performed a typically entertaining set at the Siren Music Festival at Coney Island, NY on Saturday (July 21) when they brought a live chicken onstage and blasted the audience with thousands of feathers. |
